I have never seen a greater monster or miracle in the world than myself.

STILLNESS
Look closely at yourself and you find someone stranger than anyone you observe from outside. You hold opinions that contradict each other, act against your own interests, and surprise yourself in both directions. Other people appear consistent only because you see them at a distance and in summary. The nearest subject is always the most confusing one.
When your own behaviour puzzles you this week, resist the tidy explanation. Write down what you actually did and what you had predicted you would do. That gap is better information about you than any theory you hold about yourself.
What about yourself still surprises you after all these years?
