Survival is powerful, but eventually you must learn how to live without expecting another emergency.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Getting through a long crisis teaches you to live in a particular way: alert, braced, ready for the next thing. Those habits kept you going and they are hard to put down once the emergency ends, so calm can start to feel unsafe and you may find yourself unconsciously looking for the next problem. That is not a flaw. It is a nervous system that learned what it needed to learn and has not been told the situation changed.
Give yourself time and small, low-stakes experiences of ordinary safety. Notice when you are scanning for danger that is not currently there. Learning to live rather than survive is its own slow skill, and support with it is worth asking for.
