No man ever wetted clay and then left it, as if there would be bricks by chance and fortune.

— Plutarch

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Preparation without follow-through produces nothing but wasted material. You can gather, research, plan and get everything into position, and if the shaping never happens the whole effort is as good as unspent. Nobody expects bricks to form themselves, though a great many projects are left at exactly that stage.

Find the thing you have prepared and not finished, and give it one session that produces an actual object: a draft, a call made, a form sent. Preparation is comfortable, which is why it expands. The next step is usually smaller than the one you have already taken.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What have you started and left sitting half-formed somewhere?
