No book can be so good as to be profitable when negligently read.

— Seneca

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

What you get out of anything is capped by the attention you bring to it. A great book read with half a mind delivers less than a mediocre one read properly, because the material is only ever the raw input and you supply the rest. This is why people can finish something excellent and retain nothing, then blame the book. The reading was the problem.

Choose one thing this week that deserves proper attention and give it that: phone in another room, one sitting, no second screen. Notice how different the same twenty pages feel. Then decide whether the rest of your reading is worth the time it takes.
