Men have died from time to time, and worms have eaten them,—but not for love.

— William Shakespeare

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Heartbreak feels fatal and is not. The sensation of not surviving it is entirely genuine, and it is also a bad forecast, since people come through this one reliably even when they cannot imagine how. Naming that plainly is not a dismissal of the pain; it is a correction to the part of the mind that has started making predictions.

If you are in it, you are allowed to feel exactly as bad as you feel and to disbelieve the forecast at the same time. Keep the ordinary things going, eating and sleeping and one person you speak to. Time does an unreasonable amount of the work.
