I would far rather be ignorant than wise in the foreboding of evil.

— Aeschylus

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Knowing that something bad is coming is only useful if you can do something about it. Where you cannot, the foreknowledge buys you nothing and costs you every hour between now and then, since the dread arrives long before the event and often turns out to be the larger part of the suffering. Anticipation is not preparation, though it does a good impression of it.

When you catch yourself running a future disaster, ask what action the thought makes possible. If there is one, take it now. If there is none, you are allowed to put the thought down and go back to the day in front of you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What do you wish you had never seen coming?
