The energy of the mind is the essence of life.

— Aristotle

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

What makes a day feel lived rather than merely got through is often mental: interest, attention, something being worked on or wondered about. When that goes flat, everything else can be in place and the days still feel like maintenance. It is also easily squeezed out when a life gets busy, because nothing external demands it.

Notice when you last felt genuinely curious about something, and what it was. Then give that a slot this week, small and unproductive if necessary. If the flatness does not lift, or has lasted a long while, it may be tiredness or low mood rather than a lack of the right interest, and that deserves care in its own right.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What kind of thinking leaves you more alive than tired?
