Greater than the tread of mighty armies is an idea whose time has come.

— Victor Hugo

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Force can hold back a change for a long while, but it cannot make people stop finding something true once enough of them have seen it. Armies occupy ground. Ideas occupy minds, and when the conditions are ready, when enough people are tired of the old arrangement, a belief can move faster than any power arranged against it.

The same holds on a small scale in families, workplaces and your own head. If you are pushing something nobody is ready for, patience and preparation may matter more than volume. And if you keep resisting a change that returns no matter how often you dismiss it, ask whether the resistance is now costing more than the change would.
