The way to preserve the peace of the church is to preserve its purity.

— Matthew Henry

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Peace kept by ignoring problems tends not to last. In any community, a congregation, a family, a club, a workplace, harmony that depends on nobody naming what is wrong eventually breaks down. Holding to shared standards, and addressing what corrupts them, can protect peace more truly than avoidance. The risk runs the other way too, since purity pursued harshly can become a reason to push people out.

Think of a community you belong to where something that erodes trust is being quietly tolerated. Consider raising it, gently and in person, with the aim of restoring rather than expelling. Peace and integrity are easier to keep together than apart.
