Who ever is out of patience is out of possession of their soul.

— Francis Bacon

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Losing patience is a small handover of control, and afterwards the decisions are being made by the impatience rather than by you. It shows up as a shortened reply, a signature on something unread, a message you would not have sent an hour later. Whatever you value about your own judgement is temporarily unavailable in that state.

Learn your own signals: the tightening, the speeding up, the urge to end the conversation. When you notice them, delay whatever comes next by ten minutes. Almost nothing genuinely requires an answer inside that window.
