Make progress easy enough to repeat before making it impressive enough to announce.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
There is a temptation to make the first version of a new effort dramatic, because that is what feels like commitment. Dramatic versions rarely survive a bad week. Building something you can repeat easily, even if it is unimpressive, gives you the one thing that actually matters early on, which is a pattern that keeps existing.
Set your initial commitment at a level you could keep on your worst day. Fifteen minutes rather than two hours. Once it has held for a month and stopped requiring decisions, you can raise it, and by then the raising is cheap.
Which routine did you start too ambitiously to keep going?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
