A rusty nail placed near a faithful compass, will sway it from the truth, and wreck the argosy.

REFLECTION
A small distortion close to your instrument does more damage than a large obstacle far away. The compass still works, which is the dangerous part, and everybody aboard trusts a reading that is quietly a few degrees off until the error accumulates into somewhere nobody meant to go. What corrupts judgement is usually near and unremarkable.
Look for the rusty nail rather than the storm. A financial interest you have stopped noticing, a friendship with somebody whose approval you need, a resentment you consider settled. Ask what sits close enough to your judgement to be bending it.
What small influence near you is quietly bending your judgment?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
