The ceiling moves after you prove you can live above the old one.

A ceiling stays where it is until you have spent time above the old level, and then it quietly relocates. This is why the first time you do something difficult is enormous and the tenth is unremarkable. What changed is that the level became a place you live rather than a peak you reached, and only then does the next one become imaginable.
After a breakthrough, stay at the new level long enough for it to become ordinary before reaching further. The consolidation is what makes the gain permanent. Rushing on tends to leave you with a good day rather than a new baseline.
What once felt like your ceiling and now feels routine?
