Watch how people behave when they think you have no other options.

LEADERSHIP
How someone treats you when they believe you cannot leave is the most reliable information you will get about them. Good behaviour under scrutiny is cheap; behaviour when there are no consequences is the real report. This applies to employers, partners, and anyone who has noticed that you are dependent on them. It is uncomfortable information and it is rarely wrong.
Watch what changes when your options narrow, and take it seriously rather than explaining it away. Then work quietly on having alternatives, even small ones. Having somewhere else to go changes how you are treated more reliably than any conversation.
