The man whose only pleasure in life is making money, weighs less on the moral scale than an angleworm.

— Josh Billings

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wanting money is ordinary and often urgent, and needing it has never been a moral failing. The target is narrower: someone for whom accumulation has become the only remaining source of pleasure, which is a poverty money cannot reach. Once the number is the sole thing that satisfies, everything else in a life starts being treated as an expense.

A fair test is what you enjoy that costs nothing. If that list has quietly emptied, more money is unlikely to refill it. Restock it with one small thing this week and notice whether the wanting eases at all.
