It is not the going out of port, but the coming in, that determines the success of a voyage.

— Henry Ward Beecher

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Beginnings are cheap and get all the applause. Anybody can launch something with confidence and a good speech, while whether it arrives is a separate question decided by the unglamorous middle and by how it gets finished. Judging by departures is how people end up with a life full of exciting starts and nothing completed.

Look at what you currently have in motion. Rather than adding another, ask which one is nearest to done and what the last stretch actually requires. Finishing teaches things that starting never will, and it is the part almost everybody skips.
