To good and true love fear is forever affixed.

— François Rabelais

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Caring about someone installs a permanent vulnerability, and the fear that arrives with it is not a defect in the love. It is the same attachment seen from the side where loss lives. People sometimes read that fear as a warning sign, or as evidence they are doing closeness badly, when it is simply the cost of having something to lose.

If anxiety rises alongside affection, you need not treat it as a problem to be solved before you can commit. Notice it, name it as the shadow of the good thing, and keep it from making the decisions that would hold the person at a safe distance.
