Composure creates options.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Losing composure collapses your options down to whatever the feeling suggests, usually fighting, fleeing, or freezing. Staying composed keeps the full range available, including the ones that require patience or subtlety. Nothing about the situation changed, only how many of the possible responses you can still reach.
When you feel your options narrowing to one urgent action, treat that narrowing as a symptom rather than as information. Wait until you can name three possible responses. The third one is often better than the first, and it only becomes visible once you have steadied.
Which option disappeared because you reacted too quickly?
