GRATITUDE
The mind cannot hold a longing at full strength once something else has taken the room. That reads as cynicism if you hear it as replacement, and it lands differently if you hear it as capacity: whatever you are carrying now, you are not required to carry it at this weight forever, and the change usually comes from something new arriving rather than from effort applied to the old.
If you are in the middle of losing someone, none of this asks you to move on, and nothing that comes later cancels what was. But it is worth staying reachable, in small ways, by whatever might arrive. That is where the shift eventually comes from.
Which old attachment of yours loosened only when something new arrived?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
