Not when truth is dirty, but when it is shallow, does the enlightened man dislike to wade into its waters.

REFLECTION
Ugly facts are tolerable; trivial ones are not. A serious mind will go into unpleasant territory without complaint and lose patience the moment the depth runs out, because the objection was never to the mud. Shallowness wastes attention in a way that difficulty and disgrace never do.
Apply that test to what you read, watch and argue about. Discomfort is a poor reason to leave a subject and thinness is an excellent one. If a conversation could have been finished in one sentence and is still going, your attention is being spent badly.
Which conversation bores you because it never goes deep enough?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
