Anyone entrusted with power will abuse it if not also animated with the love of truth and virtue, no matter whether he be a prince, or one of the people.

LEADERSHIP
Power does not check itself. Rules and oversight slow the misuse down, but what actually holds is whether the person holding it cares about the truth more than about winning. Where that care is missing, the abuse starts small and sounds reasonable, and rank makes no difference. Someone with slight authority over one other person is under the same pressure as someone with a great deal.
Find the place where you have more say than the people around you. Ask what you have been doing there that you would not want explained out loud. That question, asked often, does more than any rule written for you.
What keeps you honest when nobody can check your decisions?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
