Every man must do two things alone; he must do his own believing and his own dying.

— Lord Byron

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Some things cannot be handed to anyone else, however much love surrounds you. What you actually believe gets settled somewhere no one can reach, and the end of a life is entered one at a time. None of that is a statement about being unloved. Company can come very close and still not cross over, and knowing this makes the closeness easier to take for what it truly is.

You might let it lift a little pressure. Stop waiting for someone else to certify what you think, and write down plainly what you do hold to be true. Where you cannot be accompanied, you can at least be honest.
