I believe in the equality of man; and I believe that religious duties consist in doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow-creatures happy.

— Thomas Paine

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Whatever you believe about the largest questions, the test of it is small and daily: whether you are fair to people, whether you are kind when you could be harsh, whether anyone is happier for having dealt with you. Held that way, conviction stops being a matter of what you can defend in argument and becomes a matter of what you actually do. Everyone counts equally in that accounting, including the people who can do nothing for you.

Pick one person this week who has no claim on your attention and give them some. Notice whether your stated values and your ordinary conduct point in the same direction.
