I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

— Frederick Douglass

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Asking for something deeply, over and over, can feel like effort, and it is not the same as moving. Some things answer only once you have put your body in the way of them, gone to the place, made the request, taken the step that could fail. The longing was never wasted; it simply was not finished.

Take whatever you have been hoping for quietly and find the smallest physical version of it: a message sent, a door knocked on, an hour given. Do that one thing this week, and let the wanting rest for a while.
