It seems to me we can never give up longing and wishing while we are thoroughly alive. There are certain things we feel to be beautiful and good, and we must hunger after them.

— George Eliot

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wanting more than you have is not a flaw to be corrected out of you. As long as you are awake to the world, some things will strike you as beautiful and you will reach for them. That hunger is not ingratitude. Contentment that requires you to stop wanting anything is closer to numbness. The ache and the aliveness come from the same place.

Name one thing you have quietly wanted for a long time and have been treating as unserious. You do not have to chase it this week, only stop arguing about whether you are allowed to want it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What beautiful thing do you still hunger for without apology?
