My country is the world, and my religion is to do good.

— Thomas Paine

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Loyalty can be drawn narrowly or widely, and where you draw the line decides who counts. Belonging to one place and one creed makes some people your own and leaves the rest as strangers. The wider claim is plainer than it sounds: the people who deserve your decency are not only the ones nearby, and what you believe shows up in what you do for them.

Notice this week where your care quietly stops. Do one useful thing for someone outside your usual circle, without needing to explain it to anyone. Good done quietly still counts, and it counts the same whoever receives it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Could you name your actual creed in a single line?
