Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays.

GRATITUDE
Whatever you believe about who is listening, the act of putting your hope into words does something to you. Sitting with what you actually want, naming it plainly, admitting what you cannot fix, leaves you a slightly different person than the one who sat down. The world has not moved. Your relationship to it has. That reordering is not a lesser result than the one you asked for; it is often the thing you needed.
Try saying out loud, or writing down, the thing you most want to come right. Do it without editing it into something more reasonable, and notice what you hear yourself say.
What quiet practice has changed you more than its results did?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
