It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere.

— Voltaire

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Some of what holds a person in place is also what they are proud of. A belief, a role, a loyalty that costs them can feel less like a restriction than like the thing that makes them who they are. Argument rarely touches that, because you are asking someone to give up a piece of themselves, not to accept a better answer. This is true of you as well.

If someone close to you is held by something you would call a trap, stop trying to win. Ask what it gives them, and listen. Then look for the belief of your own you would defend the same way.
