Sleeping is no mean art: for its sake one must stay awake all day.

— Friedrich Nietzsche

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Rest at night is mostly decided by the day that came before it. A day spent half-awake, drifting between screens and small tasks, leaves the body with nothing to recover from and the mind still circling. Being properly awake, using yourself on something that asks for effort and attention, is what makes the evening hand-off possible.

So look at the day rather than the bedtime routine. Get outside early, put real effort somewhere before dark, and let the hard thinking happen in daylight instead of at midnight. If sleep still resists, that is not a verdict on you; some nights simply go that way.
