Secure people do not need everyone to notice when they were right.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The satisfaction of having been right is available whether or not anyone acknowledges it. Needing the acknowledgment turns a private good into something you have to extract from other people, usually at some cost to the relationship. Letting it go is not modesty so much as not needing the transaction.

When an outcome vindicates you, try saying nothing. Let the fact stand on its own. You will notice the impulse pass and the relationship survive intact.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you last let being right go unmentioned?
