CREATIVITY
Grand thinking has a pull to it, and it is often the least useful place to look. What you need to know is usually low down and unglamorous: the actual state of the accounts, what the quiet person in the room thinks, how the work is really done by whoever does it. Going down to that level means being willing to ask a plain question and handle the ordinary detail yourself. Height gives you a view; bending down gives you the facts.
This week, go one level lower on something you have been managing from above. Do the small task by hand once, and let it correct you.
What have you learned from a job considered beneath you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
