You’d be patient with a friend figuring it out. Extend yourself the same deal.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The standard you apply to yourself is often one you would find cruel if you heard someone use it on a friend. With other people you account for context, for tiredness, for the fact that learning takes time, and with yourself you skip all of it. The difference is not accuracy, it is habit.

Next time you catch yourself mid lecture, ask what you would say to someone you like in the same situation. Say that instead, out loud if it helps. Then do the next thing, which is what you would tell a friend to do anyway.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What would you tell a friend in exactly your situation?
