Slipping back into an old habit isn’t failure. Staying slipped is.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

One return to an old pattern does not erase the weeks before it. What tends to do the damage is the story that follows, where one slip becomes proof that the whole effort was fake and there is no point continuing. That conclusion turns a bad day into a bad month.

Get back to the normal version the same day if you can, or the next morning, without a long negotiation. Look at what was happening just before, since slips usually have a setup. And if this keeps happening, that is a reason to bring someone in rather than to try harder alone.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Have you treated one bad day as a full relapse?
