First in the family to figure this out means there’s no map. You’re drawing it for whoever comes next.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Doing something nobody around you has done means working out every ordinary step from scratch. Forms, deadlines, what the words mean, who to ask, what is even normal to ask; people with family experience get all of that free at dinner. The extra work is real and invisible, and it is easy to mistake for being slower or worse at it. You are doing two jobs at once.
Write things down as you learn them, even roughly. A cousin or younger sibling will need exactly that in a few years. Meanwhile find one person further along and ask directly.
Who could you ask when nobody has done it before?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
