Money is a tool, not a scoreboard. Tools are for building. Scoreboards are for comparing.

Money answers the question of what you can do next. It answers nothing about your worth, though it is easy to read it that way when everyone around you seems to be counting. Once it turns into a score, no amount is the right amount, because somebody always has a bigger one.
Try naming what you want the money for before you want the money. A bus pass that ends a two hour walk, a camera, a month of rent nobody has to worry about. Specific beats bigger almost every time.
What would you build if money stopped being a ranking?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
