Swimming against the current is exhausting. Some days, being brave is swimming sideways until you’re out of it.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fighting a current head-on is exhausting and can last considerably longer than your strength does. Some situations genuinely cannot be pushed through, and the useful move is sideways: change the conditions instead of adding effort. That is not surrender, it is refusing to spend everything on the one direction that is not working.

If you have been pushing at the same thing for months, look for the lateral option. A different manager, a different route to the same place, a different season. Rest counts as sideways too, and it is the one people skip.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where are you struggling upstream when sideways would free you?
