Your first draft is a conversation with yourself. The second draft is when you let other people in.

CREATIVITY
The first pass at anything is mostly you finding out what you actually think. It is allowed to be private, wrong, and embarrassing, because its only job is to exist. Handing it over too early turns that private thinking into a performance, and you start writing toward their faces instead of toward the idea. The second pass is where other eyes help, once there is something solid enough to survive an opinion.
Finish the ugly version before you show anyone. Then pick one or two people, not five, and ask them a specific question instead of whether they liked it.
Who is the first person you let read anything unfinished?
