The person who made your old work doesn’t own your future work. You’re allowed to reinvent.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

People outgrow their own work faster than anyone around them updates. Something you made two years ago gets treated as a description of who you are, and if you liked the reaction it got, you can end up maintaining a version of yourself for an audience. The person who made that work had their reasons. You are not required to keep taking their instructions.

Make one thing that would confuse people who only know your old stuff. You do not owe an announcement or an explanation. Let the new work show up and let people catch up on their own time.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What old style of yours are you still expected to repeat?
