They called you “extra.” Sometimes extra is just what it looks like when someone stops hiding.

Getting labeled as too much usually happens right when you stop editing yourself down. The volume did not change, the hiding did, and people used to the quieter version notice the difference before they understand it. Sometimes it is meant to sting. Often it is just discomfort with someone taking up space they were always allowed to take.

Notice who says it and how, because from someone who wants you smaller it says more about them than about you. From someone who loves you, it might be worth one honest question about what they actually saw. Either way, the version of you that stopped hiding is the one worth keeping.
