Red ink all over your essay means someone actually read it. Blank margins are the real insult.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Someone spending twenty minutes marking up your work is spending twenty minutes on you. It stings, and the sting is not evidence that the work was bad, only that somebody took it seriously enough to argue with. The page handed back with a grade and nothing else is the one worth worrying about, because it means responding did not seem worth the effort. Attention is the scarce thing there, not approval.
When the marked-up version comes back, wait an hour before you read the comments. Then take the three that repeat, because repeats are the actual lesson, and leave the rest for now.
Whose corrections did you take as an insult instead?
