Every promise you make gets a read receipt. People notice when you opened it and let it sit.

Commitments get tracked whether or not anybody mentions them. The person you said you would help remembers the day you said it, and your silence afterwards is information even when they never raise it. Nothing has to be spoken for your reliability to move in someone’s head. It just moves, quietly, in whichever direction your follow-through pointed.

Go back through the last month and find the thing you agreed to and never did. Either do it this week or tell them plainly that you cannot. Both close the loop, and leaving it open is the only option that costs you.
