Nobody wakes up far from God in one night. It’s a hundred little shrugs.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Drift is never a decision, which is what makes it hard to notice. It is a skipped prayer, a shrug at something you would have questioned last year, a Sunday you did not think about. None of those feel like anything at the time, and that is precisely the mechanism.

Look back over the last few months for the shrugs rather than the disasters. Pick one and reverse it this week, whichever is easiest to actually do. Coming back works the same way it left, in small unremarkable steps.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which small shrug have you repeated until it became a habit?
