An excuse is just a lie wearing a sad face. God sees past the costume.

An excuse and a lie do the same work, but one of them comes with a face that makes people back off. The sad version is more effective because it asks for sympathy instead of argument, and it usually works on you first. That is the part worth noticing. Nothing about the costume is convincing to God.
Listen for the excuse you have used twice already this month. Say the plain version instead, out loud, even if only in prayer. Owning the real reason is uncomfortable for a minute and cheaper than maintaining the story.
Which excuse of yours have you repeated until it sounded true?
