Faith that can’t handle a question was never really faith. It was a habit.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A belief that collapses the moment it is questioned was probably being held out of routine rather than conviction. Habits are comfortable and do not require you to have decided anything, which is why they break under the first hard question. Faith that has been thought about can sit with an unanswered question for a while without falling apart.

Ask the thing you have been avoiding, out loud, to someone who can take it. Do not settle for the answer that only works if you do not press it. A faith you have examined is the one that will still be there later.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which question would shake you if a friend asked it tonight?
