Pride says look what I did. Gratitude says look what I was given.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Both sentences describe the same achievement. One of them ends with you, and the other keeps going, back through everybody who taught you, paid for something, drove you there, or simply did not get in your way. Neither version denies the work you put in. They disagree about whether the story starts with you.

When something goes well this week, try telling it the second way out loud. Name the people who made it possible, specifically, not as a modest gesture. Notice whether that makes the win feel smaller or actually bigger.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which recent achievement of yours had other people’s help inside it?
