Getting better often feels like getting worse, because you finally notice your own mistakes.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Skill arrives before satisfaction does. As you improve, your taste sharpens quicker than your hands, so you start hearing errors that were always there and previously invisible to you. It feels like decline and it is the opposite, because noticing mistakes is what makes fixing them possible. Beginners are comfortable partly because they cannot detect the problems yet.

If something you used to enjoy now feels frustrating, read it as evidence you moved. Keep going through the gap. Ask somebody further along whether they hit the same stretch, because they did.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What mistakes can you spot now that once went unnoticed?
