Every birthday is a free chance to stop doing one thing that isn’t working.

Arbitrary dates work because they hand you a clean edge. Nothing is objectively different about the day after your birthday, but your head takes the marker seriously and files everything before it as a previous chapter, which makes dropping something easier than it would be on a random Thursday. Using that is not self-deception. It is borrowing momentum that already exists.
Pick one thing that clearly is not working and end it on the next date that means something to you. One thing, not a whole new personality. Write down what you are stopping and tell somebody.
What would you drop before your next birthday arrives?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
