Nobody stumbles onto a passion. They build one by sticking with something past the boring part.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Enthusiasm is mostly manufactured on site. What looks like somebody finding their thing is usually somebody who stayed past the stage of being bad at it, with the interest growing out of competence rather than the other way round. Everything is dull in the middle: scales, drills, the fourth week. People waiting to feel passionate before they commit rarely get there.

Take something you are mildly curious about and give it three honest months. Judge it at the end of that, not during week two. Liking a thing usually shows up once you can do it a little.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you quit something right before it got interesting?
