Putting something off feels like relief because the cost lands on a person who is not in the room yet. That person is you, with less time and the same reluctance, plus everything else that accumulated meanwhile. The arrangement only works if tomorrow is somehow stronger than today, and it never is. Delay does not reduce the work but moves it into a worse hour.

Look at what you are currently handing forward and pick the smallest piece. Do that piece now, badly if necessary, before you negotiate. Tomorrow will be busier than you are imagining, because it always is.
