Progress is invisible from inside it because your standards rise at the same rate as your ability. What felt hard in March becomes ordinary by November, and your memory quietly rewrites the earlier version as easier than it was. Old work is the only honest record. It shows you the distance your feelings will not.

Save something from right now, even a messy page or a photo of your desk. Date it and put it somewhere you will find it later. Go look at something from a year ago this week and notice what you can do now without thinking.
